Eterna PLC is proud to announce the commissioning of the Joint User Hydrant Installation 2 (JUHI-2), Nigeria’s largest and most advanced aviation fuel depot, located at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The facility was officially inaugurated on October 17, 2024, by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo.
Spanning 46,000 square meters, JUHI-2 is a joint venture between Eterna PLC, Masters Energy, Techno Oil, Quest Oil, Rahamaniyya, Ibafon Oil and First Deep Water Limited. It boasts a storage capacity of 15 million liters of Jet A1 fuel and is capable of delivering a minimum of 150 million liters monthly, representing 20% of the nation’s annual aviation fuel consumption. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art filtration systems, a jet fuel discharge system capable of loading four bowsers simultaneously, a modern laboratory, and cutting-edge fire prevention measures, ensuring the highest standards of operational efficiency and safety.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by key stakeholders from the aviation and energy sectors. Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, lauded the project, stating that it has brought Nigeria global relevance and recognition. He noted that the facility will help curb issues of flight delays and cancellations, which are often attributed to lack of Jet A1 fuel. He emphasized that the depot’s strategic location, close to both the local and international airports, meets international requirements and supports the aviation ecosystem in Nigeria.
Patience Dappa, Group Managing Director of Masters Energy and Chairperson of the JUHI-2 Board, highlighted that the depot will serve as a crucial storage and supply hub for jet fuel, ensuring a steady fuel supply to Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), MMA2, MMA1, and nearby airbases. She emphasized that JUHI-2 will strengthen the nation’s energy security, provide a reliable and robust jet fuel supply chain, and enhance the competitiveness of airports and airlines, positioning Nigeria as a regional leader in aviation.
Abiola Lawal, Managing Director/CEO of Eterna PLC and Chairman of the JUHI-2 Commissioning Committee, noted that JUHI-2 represents the culmination of years of hard work, investment, and dedication, serving as a beacon of what is possible when industry leaders unite for a common purpose. He stated that the facility will support various aviation operations, including domestic, international, cargo, hajj, business jets, and other scheduled and non-scheduled flights, significantly enhancing aviation operations and meeting the fuel demands of a wide range of flight activities.
Eterna PLC’s involvement in the JUHI-2 consortium aligns with the company’s strategic objective to be Africa’s preferred energy company. By participating in this venture, Eterna PLC reinforces its dedication to delivering innovative energy solutions and contributing to the growth and development of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The commissioning of JUHI-2 marks a significant advancement in Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure, promising to enhance operational efficiency, reduce flight delays related to fuel shortages, and contribute to the overall growth of the aviation industry. Eterna PLC remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability, and customer service in all its operations.
